Den­bigh, Ex­cel­sior win ISSA se­nior net­ball ti­tles

DEN­BIGH HIGH and Ex­cel­sior High were crowned ur­ban and ru­ral se­nior cham­pi­ons, re­spec­tively, at yes­ter­day’s ISSA school­girls net­ball fi­nals at the G.C. Foster Col­lege.

Den­bigh se­niors clipped Manch­ester High 37-35, while Ex­cel­sior stopped, Gayn­stead High 44-37.

In the ju­nior fi­nals, Gayn­stead de­feated for­mer cham­pi­ons Queen’s 26-23 for the ur­ban ti­tle, while Holm­wood cap­tured their first ju­nior fi­nal in six years after a 23-18 vic­tory over Den­bigh.

Goal shooter Moya Man­ning, with 17 goals from 19 at­tempts, was the lead­ing scorer for Den­bigh in the ru­ral se­nior fi­nal. She got good sup­port from Zan­dria Co­hen with 16 from 16, and Dane Thomas 10 from 16. Manch­ester High’s goal shooter, Janalee John­son, scored 27 from 33 at­tempts and goal at­tack Shau­nakaye Mor­gan, eight from nine.

In the ur­ban se­nior fi­nal, Ex­cel­sior were in­spired by goal shooter Kim­berly Hudson with 22 goal, from 24 at­tempts and goal at­tack Quan­nie Walker, 20 from 28. Goal shooter Amanda Pick­ney top-scored for Gayn­stead with 21 from 25, and goal at­tack As­tia Brooks got 16 from 19.

The all, is­land fi­nals will be played next Wed­nes­day, De­cem­ber 7, at the Leila Robin­son Courts.
