Wanted per­son killed in gun at­tack

The St Cather­ine North po­lice have ac­knowl­edged that one of two men killed in a gun at­tack in An­gel Heights, St Cather­ine, on Tues­day was a wanted man.

In­for­ma­tion reach­ing THE STAR is that the dead men, Leonard ‘ Riot’ Clarke, 31, and crane op­er­a­tor Leroy Gor­don, 52, of a Pe­ters Close, Span­ish Town, ad­dress were killed by men al­legedly from a ri­val gang.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, about 10: 30 p. m., per­sons were stand­ing close to a bar in the squat­ter com­mu­nity when gun­men ap­proached the area and opened fire.

The Span­ish Town po­lice said Clarke was wanted for a num­ber of crimes, in­clud­ing mur­der.


The Con­stab­u­lary Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Net­work in a re­lease, said that at the time of his death, po­lice records had Clarke as the main sus­pect in the mur­der of Des­mond Campbell, who was shot dead on Oc­to­ber 20 at a nightclub in Dam Head, on the out­skirts of Span­ish Town.

THE STAR also gath­ered that Clarke was wanted for shoot­ing at the po­lice, af­ter he and other gun­men shot at a po­lice team in the Cres­cent Heights area in June of 2011. Clarke has been on the po­lice radar as he was a known mem­ber of the re­puted One Or­der gang. Last night’s in­ci­dent, ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, was un­for­tu­nate for Gor­don who they the­o­rise was at the wrong place at the wrong time as the gun­men went in search of Clarke and caught up with him.
