Massive drug find at airport
Police yesterday seized more than $40 million worth of contraband in a massive drug find.
Detectives from the Narcotics Division seized approximately 27 pounds of cocaine at the Sangster International Airport (SIA) in St James.
Narcotics operatives report that at about 11:40 a.m. a black knapsack was seen unattended and it was subsequently searched. During the search, 11 rectangular packages wrapped with masking tape were seen and found to contain the illicit drug.
The police said the drug has an estimated street value of US$360,000 (J$45 million).
Investigations are ongoing.
These are cocaine pellets. Many Jamaicans swallow these in an attempt to sidestep checks at international ports of entry.
