Three men charged for weed

More than 400 pounds of ganja was seized and three per­sons ar­rested on the Old Har­bour Bay main road, St Cather­ine, on Tues­day.

Charged with pos­ses­sion of ganja, deal­ing in ganja, traf­fick­ing ganja and tak­ing steps prepara­tory to ex­port ganja are: 43-year-old Der­rick Reid, fish­er­man of Har­bour View, St An­drew; 27-year-old Wol­ford Scully, auto- body re­pair­man; and 52-year-old ma­son, Hugh O’Con­nor, both of Old Har­bour Bay, St Cather­ine.

Re­ports from the Old Har­bour po­lice are that at about 1:30 p.m., po­lice con­duct­ing ve­hi­cle check­point op­er­a­tions sig­nalled the driver of a grey Toy­ota Corolla mo­tor car with three men aboard to stop.

The driver com­plied and the car and its oc­cu­pants were searched and sev­eral parcels of ganja seized. A search war­rant was later ex­e­cuted and 11 knit­ted bags with ganja found at the home of one of the men.

The drug to­talled ap­prox­i­mately 425 pounds has an es­ti­mated street value of over $2.5 mil­lion.

They are to ap­pear be­fore the St Cather­ine Parish Court on Fri­day, Jan­uary 27.
