People swear I’m a gold digger

-

Dear Pastor,

I have seen where you have solved many problems, so I am asking you for your help. I am friendly with a woman. She used to live in England and she is now in Jamaica. This woman is very loving, and she is very kind to me.

She gets a good pension from England, but that is not the reason why we are friends. We are friends because I love her and she makes me happy.

I am seven years younger than she is. This woman has children, but they have not visited her in years. They don’t have time for her, and I have given my time to her.

When she came to Jamaica, she bought a house. We were friends at that time, but our relationship was not as tight as it is now.

Some people have it to say that I am with her because of what she has.

She has a car, and I don’t even drive her car very often.

I would like to marry this woman, but I was told that if we got married, she would have to give up her pension. Is that true?

L.B.

Dear L.B., Don’t allow the negative things that people say about this woman and you to prevent both of you from getting married. You should not try to live just to please people.

Concerning the matter you raised about the woman’s pension, if a person loses a pension by virtue of returning home and remarrying, it would appear to be a feature of the jurisdiction where the pension is awarded.

So, therefore, if it is that the law states that remarrying nullifies the pension in that jurisdiction, then the pensioner would be faced with the consequences if he or she remarries. But a lawyer or the British High Commissioner would be best able to advise you on this matter.

Pastor.
