The Tashkent metro was the first of its kind in Central Asia, and last year it was 40 years old. It has three branch lines and 29 stations and many of them are worth a visit. You are not permitted to take photographs inside; your bag will be checked at the entrance, according to local rules. Taxis remain the most popular mode of transport in Tashkent, mainly because they are cheap, with most trips costing no more than $2-3 if you know how to bargain. There is no other way to do business in the East.
