Red Cross sends medical teams to malaria-hit regions in N. Rift
Kenya Red Cross Society has deployed medical experts to North Rift counties hit by malaria as many patients seek herbal treatment due to the ongoing nurses’ strike. The society has posted clinicians, nurses, nutritionists and public health officials to Tiaty in Baringo and parts of Turkana County where the disease has claimed more than 10 lives in two weeks.
According to Dr Robert Bett, the society donated 2,000 rapid diagnostic kits and drugs to deal with emergencies in counties hit by the outbreak. “Our outreach team has devolved a multi-sectorial approach to contain the disease but lack of functional hospitals and inadequate resources remain the main challenges,” he said on the phone.
