Former councillors seeking Sh18bn retirement package
More than 300 former councillors in Nakuru County have urged MPS to back the Bill recommending a Sh18 billion gratuity payment. The former ward representatives appealed to the lawmakers to ensure the award is effected. Led by Nakuru branch committee chairman Samson Mwirigi, they urged the government to award them the retirement package, saying the one-off payment would not cost taxpayers much. More than 12,000 former councilors countrywide are asking for a one-off honorarium of Sh1.5 million and a monthly stipend of Sh30,000. They said Senate Labour Committee has already recommended the award.
