Mysterious witness in copter, governor car crashes arrested
A man who made headlines after he claimed to have witnessed two accidents in a span of a week was arrested yesterday.
When he stood in front of TV cameras as one of the people who witnessed Tuesday’s accident in which Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru died, he introduced himself as Dennis Muigai Ngengi (left).
He gave the same name at the scene of the fatal helicopter crash in Nakuru a week earlier.
Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro said police wanted to confirm his identity.
“He is being detained. We want to know his character: Who is this man? We need to know his identity. He might be Ugandan,” said Mr Muhoro.
During an interview with NTV after the helicopter crash, he claimed to be a “State pilot”.
A few days later, he told Citizen TV that he was in car behind the governor’s vehicle before it crashed.
Inspector-general of Police Joseph Boinnet on Wednesday promised to investigate and unveil the “witness-in-chief”. This was after claims emerged the man was a police officer.
