Women and youth ben­e­fit from Sh3bn

More than Sh3.8 bil­lion has been dis­bursed to women, youth and vul­ner­a­ble groups in Nairobi County so far, Pub­lic Ser­vice Cab­i­net Sec­re­tary Si­cily Kar­iuki has said.

Speak­ing dur­ing a cer­e­mony to present a cheque for Uwezo, women and youth funds, the CS said the largest amount of money went to the youth through the Youth En­ter­prise De­vel­op­ment Fund. A to­tal of Sh26.1 mil­lion was given to ben­e­fi­cia­ries through the three funds dur­ing the event.

“The time for pol­i­tics is over. The time for demon­stra­tions is over. Now is the time to build our na­tion. We have prayed for sta­bil­ity and we got it. As women and youth, we must en­sure our lives, our businesses and our plans go on like they did be­fore the elec­tions,” Ms Kar­iuki said.

She, how­ever, noted that the Na­tional Gov­ern­ment Af­fir­ma­tive Ac­tion Fund was un­der­utilised.

Nairobi County Regional Co­or­di­na­tor Bernard Lepar­marai, who was at the event, urged ben­e­fi­cia­ries of the funds to en­sure timely pay­ments in or­der for oth­ers to also ben­e­fit from the money.

The county cur­rently has the best re­pay­ment rate for the women’s fund at 90 per cent. So far, 3,800 groups have re­ceived money for dif­fer­ent projects from the Women En­ter­prise Fund in Nairobi, while 3,000 have ben­e­fited from Uwezo fund.
