Women and youth benefit from Sh3bn
More than Sh3.8 billion has been disbursed to women, youth and vulnerable groups in Nairobi County so far, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has said.
Speaking during a ceremony to present a cheque for Uwezo, women and youth funds, the CS said the largest amount of money went to the youth through the Youth Enterprise Development Fund. A total of Sh26.1 million was given to beneficiaries through the three funds during the event.
“The time for politics is over. The time for demonstrations is over. Now is the time to build our nation. We have prayed for stability and we got it. As women and youth, we must ensure our lives, our businesses and our plans go on like they did before the elections,” Ms Kariuki said.
She, however, noted that the National Government Affirmative Action Fund was underutilised.
Nairobi County Regional Coordinator Bernard Leparmarai, who was at the event, urged beneficiaries of the funds to ensure timely payments in order for others to also benefit from the money.
The county currently has the best repayment rate for the women’s fund at 90 per cent. So far, 3,800 groups have received money for different projects from the Women Enterprise Fund in Nairobi, while 3,000 have benefited from Uwezo fund.
