Officer dies after attack in Bondo
A police officer died after he was allegedly assaulted by boda boda riders on Monday night in Bondo, Siaya County.
Mr Rodgers Nalianya, stationed at Kogelo police station, died on arrival at Bondo sub-county hospital after sustaining injuries in the attack.
According to Siaya police commandant Sarah Duncan, the officer was in pursuit of a burglary suspect in Bondo. The case had been reported at the Kogelo police station in July by Mr Caleb Omolo.
“The police officer died on arrival in Bondo town from serious injuries he sustained in the attack,” said Ms Duncan.
She said Mr Nalianya had been informed that the suspect, in the case that was slated to be heard today, was spotted in Bondo.
Ms Duncan said the officer and his colleagues received a hostile reception from boda boda riders when they arrived in the town, forcing them to seek refuge at Bondo police station. “The officer was heading back to his work station when the boda boda operators attacked him,” she said.
