Tourists flock to archipelago for annual cultural celebration
Transporters in Lamu are recording huge profits as local and international tourists flock to the archipelago for the Lamu Cultural Festival, which begins tomorrow. The annual four-day festival showcases the rich culture of the Swahili people. Since Monday, bus companies and airlines have been doing roaring business. Mr Ahmed Yusuf, an attendant at Lamu Tahmeed Bus, said their buses are fully booked. The situation is the same at the Tawakal Bus offices, where attendant Said Sharif said they are booked up to Thursday. Airlines such as Fly 540 plying the Mombasa-lamu and Malindilamu route are also fully booked for the next three days. Shop owners, grocery stores and boat owners welcomed the boost in business.
