Lead­ers call for cash au­dit of Do­min­ion Farms be­fore exit

Si­aya lead­ers and com­mu­nity-based groups want a thor­ough fi­nan­cial au­dit of Amer­i­can-owned Do­min­ion Farms be­fore it is cleared to exit the area. Ugunja MP Opiyo Wan­dayi and di­rec­tor of Com­mu­nity Ini­tia­tive Ac­tion Group Kenya Chris Owala ex­pressed con­cern over the com­pany’s de­ci­sion to close shop de­spite en­joy­ing sup­port from the lo­cal lead­er­ship and county gov­ern­ment. They said the firm should pay in full all dues owed to work­ers and sup­pli­ers be­fore be­ing al­lowed to exit the vast Yala Swamp. The com­pany’s prob­lems be­gan in Fe­bru­ary 2017 when CEO Calvin Burgess ac­cused Nasa pres­i­den­tial can­di­date Raila Odinga, Gov­er­nor Cor­nel Rasanga and five for­mer Si­aya MCAS of sab­o­tag­ing its op­er­a­tions.
