New char­tered flights boost tourist num­bers

Lodges and camps in Tsavo East and West na­tional parks are en­joy­ing brisk busi­ness fol­low­ing the in­tro­duc­tion of char­tered flights be­tween War­saw and Mom­basa by TUI Poland last week.

Ac­cord­ing to Kenya As­so­ci­a­tion of Hotel­keep­ers and Cater­ers-tsavo East and West, and Am­boseli cir­cuit chair­man Wil­lie Mwadilo, the di­rect flights by TUI Poland had in­creased tourist num­bers in the parks.

Mr Mwadilo (right), who is also the gen­eral man­ager of Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge, said guest num­bers at the fa­cil­ity in Taita-taveta County had gone up to 75 per cent, from 35 per cent last month.

Apart from the Pol­ish tourists, the KAHC of­fi­cial added that the lodges and camps had been re­ceiv­ing do­mes­tic tourists thanks to Madaraka Ex­press trains.

Kenya Sa­fari Lodges and Ho­tels CEO Vic­tor Shi­takha said Voi Sa­fari Lodge in Tsavo East had 70 per cent oc­cu­pancy thanks to char­ter flights from Italy and Poland to Mom­basa.
