Muwasco says very few people have heeded Mr Wa Iria’s order, noting that 82pc of consumers have settled their water bills. About 12 plumbers employed by the county government to reconnect water to homes disconnected by Muwasco have been arrested and charged in Murang’a law courts. They were given bonds of Sh500,000 each. On Saturday, the governor said he would organise a fundraiser to secure their release.
Water and Irrigation CEC Paul Macharia was also arrested over water-related charges. He was released on a Sh200,000 cash bail. Mr Iria said he would distribute whistles to residents to sound the alert whenever water company staff came to disconnect their water supply.
