I de­cided to pur­sue fit­ness be­cause I loved how I felt af­ter a run. I have al­ways been a ball of en­ergy and learnt to chan­nel it into more pro­duc­tive things early on. Fit­ness for me is an out­let in so many ways. My fit­ness slo­gan and phi­los­o­phy is… Fit Hap­pens! If you want to go for it, just do it. You work at it and slowly and surely, fit hap­pens. One fit­ness move I’d swear by is don­key kicks. As you get older for some rea­son your glutes tend to get slack. Don't let that be you. Drop down on all fours bring your knee into your chest and kick it straight out. I wake up at 4 am to pre­pare my­self for the day ahead. I pro­vide one-hour ses­sions and work through to 10 am. I have re­cently started train­ing group classes. It’s amazing how peo­ple feed off the en­ergy gen­er­ated from a group. It’s also eas­ier to hold your­self ac­count­able. The re­al­ity is that your body per­forms bet­ter af­ter a rest day. I am a mum of three so for me, rest day tends to be more like ac­tive rest be­tween run­ning af­ter the kids and par­tic­i­pat­ing in dif­fer­ent sports ac­tiv­i­ties. How­ever, I don't lift any weights or do car­dio. I fo­cus on keep­ing my wa­ter in­take high and eat­ing healthy. Wanna take up ex­er­cise in 2017? Plan, plan, plan! Plenty of times, new year res­o­lu­tions tend to go up in smoke. Why? Be­cause of fail­ure to plan. Set out your fit­ness goals, be re­al­is­tic and set time­lines. Write it down, re­view it and make it hap­pen. It’s not easy; how­ever, it’s pos­si­ble. My gym pet peeve is the idlers, peo­ple who just stand there talk­ing and tak­ing up space. Why can't they stay home and rest there? If you are done work­ing out, just move out and sit be­side the wa­ter foun­tain and catch your breath on the way to the show­ers and give oth­ers space.
