United Na­tions de­ploys troops af­ter fight­ing breaks out in Uvira

DR CONGO: The United Na­tions Or­gan­i­sa­tion Sta­bil­i­sa­tion Mis­sion in the Demo­cratic Re­pub­lic of Congo (MONUSCO) has sent an un­spec­i­fied number of sol­diers to the Uvira area in the coun­try’s South Kivu prov­ince to de­ter any at­tack to the city and avoid es­ca­la­tion of con­flict, af­ter fight­ing broke out be­tween armed groups and the na­tional army. For two decades, DR Congo has bat­tled dozens of lo­cal and for­eign mili­tias in the east­ern side of the coun­try which has large de­posits of tin, coltan and gold.
