UGANDA: Uganda Communications Commission has shut down 23 radio stations over “lack of minimum broadcasting standards.”

Licences of the stations were suspended for allegedly promoting witchcraft in a move that sent shockwaves across the country’s broadcast industry.

Pamela Ankunda, a spokesperson for the UCC, said the decision was taken after the stations ignored incessant warnings, citing a 2014 directive where all broadcasters were warned against advertising and promoting witchcraft..
