The East African - - OPINION -

A Kuwaiti female news anchor is serving a suspension for jokingly calling a male correspondent “handsome” during a live TV broadcast. Basima al-shammar was suspended by the Ministry of Information because she told her male colleague on live feed that he didn’t need to adjust his traditional headgear, ghutra, because he was already handsome. The joke raised an uproar among male politicians who accused her of “flirting” on air. Even after hearing her explanation, the ministry suspended her and launched an investigation.
