Igad lead­ers meet over con­flicts

The News:

East African ex­perts in con­flict res­o­lu­tion and preven­tion have urged re­gional coun­tries to de­velop a "Re­gional Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion Frame­work and Dialogue In­dex" to sup­port con­flict preven­tion and set­tle­ment ef­forts.

The ex­perts, meet­ing un­der the In­ter­gov­ern­men­tal Au­thor­ity on Devel­op­ment (Igad) Me­di­a­tion Sup­port Unit (MSU) plat­form over the past few days in Ethiopia's cap­i­tal Ad­dis Ababa, stressed the im­por­tance of en­gag­ing the youth, en­hanc­ing gen­der re­spon­sive dialogue and a faith-based ap­proach to dialogue and rec­on­cil­i­a­tion to ad­dress such is­sues as hu­man rights, jus­tice, and spir­i­tual heal­ing. The high-level meet­ing also stressed that build­ing re­gional nor­ma­tive ca­pac­ity on me­di­a­tion and strengthen ca­pac­i­ties of na­tional in­sti­tu­tions in mem­ber states will help in con­flic preven­tion. The need for dialogue and rec­on­cil­i­a­tion for con­flict preven­tion and trans­for­ma­tion, geopol­i­tics con­text in the IGAD re­gion, were also dis­cussed.
