Cor­rup­tion case against for­mer Embu county sec­re­tary starts in Keru­goya

A cor­rup­tion case against for­mer Embu county sec­re­tary Lorna Kar­iuki and five oth­ers started at the High Court in Keru­goya yes­ter­day. The pros­e­cu­tion pre­sented three wit­nesses – all em­ploy­ees of the Embu govern­ment. The sixth pros­e­cu­tion wit­ness, Harun Mu­turi, de­nied re­ceiv­ing a let­ter invit­ing him for a meet­ing to open the tender for the re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of the Embu Mu­nic­i­pal Sta­dium. Mu­turi is a cler­i­cal of­fi­cer in the Fi­nance de­part­ment. He told the court he first learned of the let­ter when record­ing a state­ment with of­fi­cers from the Ethics and Anti-Cor­rup­tion Com­mis­sion, who sum­moned him in June last year. County hu­man re­source man­ager Caroline Mwende said she did not at­tend a tender com­mit­tee meet­ing on Novem­ber 8, 2013. The hear­ing con­tin­ues to­day be­fore chief mar­gis­trate Fran­cis An­dayi.
