A corruption case against former Embu county secretary Lorna Kariuki and five others started at the High Court in Kerugoya yesterday. The prosecution presented three witnesses – all employees of the Embu government. The sixth prosecution witness, Harun Muturi, denied receiving a letter inviting him for a meeting to open the tender for the rehabilitation of the Embu Municipal Stadium. Muturi is a clerical officer in the Finance department. He told the court he first learned of the letter when recording a statement with officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, who summoned him in June last year. County human resource manager Caroline Mwende said she did not attend a tender committee meeting on November 8, 2013. The hearing continues today before chief margistrate Francis Andayi.
