TSC mid-year teacher transfers criticised
Baringo Knut branch wants ongoing transfers stopped until next year to allow teachers time to help their students prepare to sit their final examinations. Executive secretary Joshua Cheptarus (pictured) accused the Teachers Service Commission of carrying out a major transfer during a critical time when candidates are preparing for KCPE and KCSE exams. He addressed teachers and parents at Emboruto Primary School in Baringo North subcounty on Wednesday during a function attended by subcounty education officer Wilson Korombori and assistant county commissioner Micah Ondoro. Cheptarus said the transfers might worsen the students’ performance, especially in improving schools in Baringo North, South, Tiaty and Baringo Central. “The same teachers who have just been served with transfer letters are the ones assisting our children revise.” he said. “We do not despise balancing of teachers but we firmly disagree with the timing by the TSC,” he said. Cheptarus said it is the second time the commission is undertaking transfers this year. The first one was in February. The unionist criticised the criteria used in conducting the transfers. He said the sick and widows have been affected.
