Police hunt for man who allegedly assaulted, seriously injured neighbour
Police in Mumias are looking for a man who allegedly assaulted his neighbour, leading to his death after a land dispute. Ramadhan Chitechi is said to have fled after assaulting Francis Akondo on Friday, leaving him bleeding profusely. Akondo was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Mumias, where he succumbed to the injuries on Sunday. On Sunday night, residents torched Chitechi’s five houses and destroyed property in his compound. Neighbour Jackson Orito said Chitechi has had a long history of land disputes with neighbours. “Last week, during an assistant chief’s baraza, he threatened to teach his elder brother, Kassim Wanga, a lesson for not allowing him to sell their father’s land,” he said. South Wanga assistant county commissioner Wilson Chacha urged residents not to take the law into their own hands.
