In­sur­ance reg­u­la­tor says Health func­tion has im­proved since it was de­volved

The In­sur­ance Reg­u­la­tory Au­thor­ity has said the health sec­tor has im­proved ser­vices since the func­tion was de­volved. Chief ex­ec­u­tive Sammy Makove said there is still room for im­prove­ment through part­ner­ships. “We are aware that there have been var­i­ous chal­lenges. Th­ese are teething prob­lems that such changes are bound to cause,” he said. Makove do­nated med­i­cal equip­ment worth Sh2.5 mil­lion to the Kakamega County Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal on Fri­day. The equip­ment in­cludes 33 wheelchairs and 10 trol­leys. The Coast Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal, Ny­eri Pro­vin­cial Hos­pi­tal, Machakos Level 5 Hos­pi­tal, Garissa Hos­pi­tal and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teach­ing and Re­fer­ral Hos­pi­tal have ben­e­fited from sim­i­lar do­na­tions. “We ap­pre­ci­ate that mat­ters health are a pre­rog­a­tive of the gov­ern­ment but we’re aware of the re­source con­straints it faces,” he said.He said IRA will sup­port gov­ern­ment fa­cil­i­ties through equip­ment do­na­tion.
