OBSOLETE MACHINES SENT TO COUNTIES, SAYS KNUN
Kenya National Union of Nurses national chairman Jackson Bii son Friday said most counties are yet to develop the required infrastructure to deal with the community’s health needs. “Devolution of health services has not been beneficial to Kenyans as expected because of mismanagement by the county governments,” he said. The union said some of the health equipment sent to county hospitals by the national government is obsolete. Bii accused the government of failing to build capacity for health staff to use equipment. He said many county hospitals are unable to handle simple medical conditions and this causes congestion at national referral hospitals. KNUN has complained of nepotism in recruitment. Bii said workers are victimised. Last month, nurses called off their planned strike after meeting the county government. But KNUN says the county has not implemented changes.
