Dagoretti children’s rescue centre gets Sh136m to rehabilitate street families
Amref Child Protection and Development Centre in Dagoretti has received Sh136 million from the Italian Foreign ministry to rehabilitate 5,000 street families.
The funds will be used to support 3,500 youths at risk and vulnerable street children.
Drug abusers will be rehabilitated, they will be taught various skills and counselled so they can become useful members of society.
Amref will also train 1,500 parents of street children in a project called Out of the Streets.
Homeless adults, mainly women, will be trained in embroidery and knitting so they can earn a living.
“To secure the sustainability of this intervention, the grant will go towards building the capacity of community organisations in child protection and case management,” Amref country director Meshack Ndirangu said.
