Thieves steal Sh500,000 sheep and goats in Mavoko, eight animals recovered

The Star (Kenya) - - Counties -

Thieves broke into a farmer’s home at Empakasi village in Mavoko subcounty on Monday night and stole more than 100 goats and sheep worth Sh500,000.

They also killed 22 sheep and arranged them along the road between the home of Joan Lelei and neighbouring Kasuitu slum.

Lelei told the press at his home that the thieves cut his barbed wire fence to gain entry into his home. He said the theft has impoverished him.

Neighbours helped him recover eight sheep alive in Kasuitu slum on Tuesday.

Spokesman Jeremiah Kaloi said stock theft has become rampant.

He said they were disappointed with security officers because thieves walk freely and no one has been arrested for stealing livestock.

Police should intensify night patrols to protect residents and their property, Kaloi said.
