Abandoned bag ‘thrown out of a bus’ causes bomb scare at Lari trading centre

The Star (Kenya) - - Counties -

Lari residents called the police about a suspected bomb after a black bag was left unattended at a trading centre.

Its presence caused tension, forcing boda boda operators and pedestrians to give the street a wide berth.

“We suspected it was a bomb,” Peter Kimani said.

But it later emerged the bag was thrown out of a bus by a man who disagreed with his wife at dawn on Friday. The bus was headed to Western. The man allegedly told his wife to go back to Nairobi and then threw out her bag.

DCI officers led by their boss Mugo Mithamo discovered the bag contained women’s and children’s clothes, diapers and other personal effects.

A woman with two children later claimed the bag. Mithamo said she did not mention the alleged disagreement with her husband.
