Get rid of fake lawyers, provide list of genuine ones, MP Njuki urges JSC
Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Muthomi Njuki has urged the Judicial Service Commission to use a suitable mechanism to get rid of quacks posing as lawyers. He spoke in Chuka town on Friday during the Chuka High Court Open Day. The event was attended by Judges, magistrates, lawyers and other court users. Njuki said unqualified individuals have been conning unsuspecting Kenyans. “We have a lot of masqueraders, who pretend to be lawyers, but are yet to attend any law school. They charge low rates compared to professional lawyers,” he said. “They file documents that are not tangible, leading to crippling of cases and eventually the cases are thrown out because they cannot hold.” Njuki urged the JSC to provide a list of lawyers accredited by the Law Society of Kenya to operate in various courts. “This will help residents authenticate advocates who are suitable to represent them,” he said.
