BY STANLEY MAGUT/ Eldoret town comes alive next Sunday as defending champions and upstarts are expected to battle it out at the Family Bank Eldoret Half Marathon.
The event comes after a successful staging of Olympic trials in the town with hundreds of athletes set to prove their worth in the tenth edition.
Sammy Kirui who won the 2009 Guttenberg half marathon took the men’s title last year with a 62:41 time performance while Caroline Chepchirchir won the women’s title.
According to the chairman Athletics Kenya Uasin Gishu County Mjr.rtd Charles Chesire, over 1200 athletes are expected to participate in the event.
“The race is improving in each edition and we are expecting the defending champions on Sunday. Many athletes training in the North Rift region will also grace it since it will be the only big event in the area,”Chesire said.
Chesire said they are still in discussion with the relevant bodies to have the course certified by International Association of Athletics Federations.
