CS Ma­tiang’i wants ECDE stan­dards har­monised to im­prove ed­u­ca­tion qual­ity

Ed­u­ca­tion CS Fred Ma­tiang’i wants Early Child­hood Ed­u­ca­tion stan­dards har­monised. He said this will en­sure the na­tional and county gov­ern­ments de­liver ser­vices ef­fi­ciently. The CS spoke dur­ing a meet­ing with county Ed­u­ca­tion ex­ec­u­tives at the Kenya In­sti­tute of Cur­ricu­lum Devel­op­ment yes­ter­day. Ma­tiang’i was with di­rec­tor gen­eral Leah Rotich, KICD chief ex­ec­u­tive Julius Jwan, Ed­u­ca­tion ex­ec­u­tives’ chair­man Beryl Mutekhele and her deputy Jam­leck Mu­turi. Har­monised stan­dards will in­volve ECDE teacher train­ing, class­rooms, cur­ricu­lum, as­sess­ment and spe­cial needs. The CS said, “An in­te­grated frame­work on ECDE within the min­istries of Ed­u­ca­tion, Health and Labour would en­sure devel­op­ment and ed­u­ca­tion needs of chil­dren.” Ma­tiang’i said the min­istry has cre­ated an ECDE direc­torate to pri­ori­tise the needs of chil­dren in early stages devel­op­ment.
