An Sh15 million ice plant is being built in Kizingitini town, Lamu East constituency.

Fishermen had complained that 70 per cent of their catch goes bad while being transported to markets for lack of proper storage facilities.

The Kiunga fish market is also being renovated for Sh6.5 million.

County Fisheries director Abdalla Masoud said, “We are searching for more markets. We are doing all we can to improve fish farming and ensure fishermen benefit from their trade. We want to try as much as we can to reduce the challenges being faced.”

He said the project will make farming lucrative.

In August, the government said it will invest more in fish farming and in building dams.
