10 Malindi law courts security guards protest against poor and delayed pay
Ten security guards at the Malindi law courts yesterday went on strike to protest against poor and delayed pay.
They reported to work at 6am as usual, but did not wear their uniforms or work.
Motorists had to open the gates by themselves or wait for well-wishers to open them. At abround 10.30am, the guards met their supervisor and some emerged from the talks in uniforms.
One guard told journalists guards are yet to be paid last month’s salary. He said they earn Sh6,500.
“We are not paid overtime and there are no deductions for NHIF. As if that is not enough, we are never paid on time,’’ he said.
The guard said their employers threaten to sack them whenever they raise pay grievances. “We are always suffering here ,” he said.
