Farmers told to sell animals to avoid losses in drought
Livestock owners in Lamu should sell their animals to prevent losses when they die due to drought. “The drought here is now a disaster and as an office we are doing all we can to counter the impending losses. As it is now, over 30,000 residents in the affected areas and over 200,000 head of livestock are staring at acute starvation,” Lamu National Drought Management Authority coordinator Mohamed Dahir said. He said most pasture, farmland and wells have dried up. Speaking on Sunday, Dahir said the worst-hit areas are Pandanguo, Witu, Hongwe, Mtangawanda, Bargoni, Basuba and Milimani.
