Betting boss in chopper shells out just Sh20K
His rival Knut official, arrived on a boda boda, donating Sh30,000 for classrooms
Hundreds of people had gathered since morning in Chesongo village, Baringo Central subcounty, at a school harambee — waiting for mana from heaven.
Then came the much-anticipated whir of chopper blades and a cloud of dust as a VIP landed.
Gambling and Betting Board director and governor aspirant Simon Chelugui alighted to applause. But the crowd was disappointed by his Sh20,000 gift.
The target was Sh3.5 million for new classrooms at Chesongo Primary School.
Then the gambling boss, definitely not a high roller, was off to his next campaign stop.
His rival Stanley Kiptis, Knut executive secretary in Eldama-Ravine, arrived shortly afterward on a boda boda. He gave $30,000. Residents noticed the difference.“I was here by 8am preparing meals, expecting guests, including Chelugui, would help us meet the target to com- plete the classrooms. Shockingly, he only gave Sh20,000,” resident Charles Kibowen said.
Kibowen wondered why he landed in an expensive chopper, only to part with a paltry sum. He should have sent money via M-Pesa. Chelugui said the chopper enabled him to cover more ground. He and others are challenging Governor Benjamin Cheboi.
