Lagat suffers blow as MCAs suspend Health executive
Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat suffered a blow after Health executive Mathew Rotich was suspended by the assembly. This came as Lagat stepped up campaignining for reelection on the Jubilee ticket, saying his administration had delivered on its pledges.
The assembly acted on recommendations by the Health committee that Rotich be sent home for three months to allow for investigations into failures in his docket.
They accused him of gross misconduct and failure to honour summons by the committee two weeks ago. Rotich had been summoned to report on the status of the health department. He was to advise on the state of hospitals, budget implementation, availability of drugs and staff welfare.
Some MCAs opposed to the move. “Grounds for suspension are not sufficient, we should give him a fair hearing,” Tindiret MCA Kipkurui Chepkwony said.
Senator Stephen Sang said, “The health sector has been the worst in the county”. He cited medics’ strikes.
