VIHIGA OWES SH897M NOT SH2.5BN, SAYS GOVERNOR
A meeting between the governor and contractors turned chaotic on Thursday last week after Akaranga failed to state exactly how they will be paid. Akaranga asked the contractors to appoint three representatives to meet him on Friday but the meeting aborted. The contractors have accused chief officers in Akaranga’s administration of looting the county’s coffers and building palatial homes with the money. But Athiaya said the governor explained to the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee that no money was lost. In January, Akaranga said the county’s pending bills amount to Sh897 million, and not Sh2.5 billion. Later that month, MCAs rejected a report recommending the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission investigate.
