Facebook boast of child rape reminds us of girls’ plight

The Star (Kenya) - - Voices -

Recently, Kenyans on Facebook were shocked when Alfayo Mbane from Sotik posted pictures of a standard four girl, whom he bragged of having defiled. This case marked a chilling reminder of the plight of the girl in society. It is unfortunate that despite the concerted efforts to safeguard her from all forms of abuse and discrimination, a paedophile has the audacity to brag about his beastly act. Indeed, this was a damning indictment of the country’s commitment to ensuring the girl’s progress by protecting her from such acts. That people like Alfayo are still roaming our society is a national shame. However, the Alfayo case goes a long way in bringing to light the extent to which girls are facing a myriad of challenges that to hinder her prosperity. Sexual abuse remains one of the major issues standing in the way of the girl’s progress.
