Time to take stock of 60 varsities’ quantity, quality

The Star (Kenya) - - Voices -

President Uhuru Kenyatta last week ordered that no new universities will be established or chartered for the time being. This was after awarding charters to eight new universities at a ceremony at State House. With over 60 universities in the country that include public, private, constituent colleges and universities with letters of interim authority, it is only fair we first take stock of whether the universities are offering quantity or quality. I therefore support Uhuru’s move to freeze any further setting up of new universities until we take stock of what we already have.
