Kisumu wants EACC to probe ward fund
Five ward committee members to step aside or be suspended during probe
Kisumu county assembly has asked the anti-graft agency to audit spending and investigate alleged fraud in the county Ward Development Fund.
Assembly clerk Philip Adundo said on September 28, the assembly adopted the report of a committee formed to investigate fraudulent use of public funds.
He urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to take actionrecommended in the report.
“We have written to the commission and we are waiting for their response,” Adundo told the Star on the phone.
The clerk has also written to county secretary Humphrey Nakitari, notifying him that five government officials, who are signatories to the funds, will be investigated.
Members of the Kisumu County Ward Development Management Committee to be investigated are Finance chief officer Cephas Kasera, fund administrator George Anyonga, Transport chief officer Samuel Ondola, Jacob Muga (Water) and Lilian Ogombo (Energy).
“The members are expected to step aside or be suspended until the investigation is completed,” the letter dated October 4 says.
MCAs have questioned the rush by the assembly to request the EACC to investigate. They said the report recommending the probe was not adopted by the house.
During deliberation on the report two weeks ago, chaos erupted at the assembly and a clerical officer was assaulted.
