You led UDF to Jubilee so shut up, Washiali tells Mudavadi
‘He has failed to stand alone and sell his name. That is why he is siding with Cord. Why is he opposed to our working with Jubilee when he is working with Cord?’
Stop maligning us when you are the one who led us to Jubilee in the first place, Kakamega Jubilee Party MPs have told ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi. Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali said it was Mudavadi who negotiated with the Jubilee coalition to work with UDF.
“He took us into a new marriage with Jubilee and we are comfortable in the marriage. He should not ask us to divorce from our nuptials to seek a new spouse,” he said. Mudavadi ditched UDF for the Amani National Congress last year.
UDF was among the parties that merged to form JP on September 9. The MPs who moved to JP include Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Malulu Injendi (Malava) and Washiali.
Washiali said Mudavadi and then UDF secretary general Dan Ameyo entered into a written agreement with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto to work together.
He was addressing journalists in Mumias town on Sunday. “It’s that agreement that made me the deputy chief whip in the National Assembly from the government side,” Washiali said. He said Mudavadi’s ultimatum that they leave JP was an insult to the MPs and their voters.
Washiali said he supported Mudavadi in his 2013 presidential race and helped him get 8,000 votes in Mumias East.
“I got 18,000 while Mudavadi got 8,000. Were it not for my efforts, he would have received those votes from my constituency. Mudavadi should be explaining to people who voted for him in 2013 why he led us to Jubilee and left us there,” he said.
“Today, he has failed to stand alone and sell his name. That is why he is confusedly siding with Cord in his endeavours to remain relevant. Why is he opposed to our working with Jubilee when he is working with Cord?”
