Four new faces included in final 24-member squad ahead of Morocco friendly
Four new players have been drafted into the 24-member squad of the Kenya women’s national team ‘Harambee Starlets’ set to play a friendly match against Morocco this Sunday in Rabat.
The players to make their debut include former national team hockey player Pauline Naise, attacker Janet Bundi, defender Esther Nyandika and midfielder Bertha Omita.
The team manager Doreen Nabwire said the players have shown growth in the training sessions at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani thus their inclusion in the team. She said their selection is on merit. The official said morale is high in the camp and they remain hopefully of posting good results as the team pre- pares for the forthcoming Africa women’s Cup of Nation set for November 19 to December 3 in Cameroon.
“Were it not for logistical reasons, we should have left for Morocco (today) but we are yet to get confirmation of the exact day we will be departing,” said Nabwire, who doubles up as the national team player.
She added, “Apart from playing the national team, we are scheduled to play top clubs from Morocco as well. Our aim is to play as many friendlies as we can to gauge our performance ahead of the AWCON.” Those, who have been axed and were part of the national team that featured in the recent Cecafa show in Uganda are Terry Ouko, Mercy Achieng, Carolyne Kiget, Maureen Ater and Sharon Aluoch.
After the Morocco tour, the team under David Ouma is set to host Cameroon and Egypt later this month here before traveling to Cameroon for a return leg.
