Four new faces in­cluded in fi­nal 24-mem­ber squad ahead of Morocco friendly

Four new play­ers have been drafted into the 24-mem­ber squad of the Kenya women’s na­tional team ‘Haram­bee Star­lets’ set to play a friendly match against Morocco this Sun­day in Rabat.

The play­ers to make their de­but in­clude for­mer na­tional team hockey player Pauline Naise, at­tacker Janet Bundi, de­fender Esther Nyandika and mid­fielder Bertha Omita.

The team man­ager Doreen Nab­wire said the play­ers have shown growth in the train­ing ses­sions at the Sa­fari­com Sta­dium, Kasarani thus their in­clu­sion in the team. She said their selection is on merit. The of­fi­cial said morale is high in the camp and they re­main hope­fully of post­ing good re­sults as the team pre- pares for the forth­com­ing Africa women’s Cup of Na­tion set for Novem­ber 19 to De­cem­ber 3 in Cameroon.

“Were it not for lo­gis­ti­cal rea­sons, we should have left for Morocco (to­day) but we are yet to get con­fir­ma­tion of the ex­act day we will be de­part­ing,” said Nab­wire, who dou­bles up as the na­tional team player.

She added, “Apart from play­ing the na­tional team, we are sched­uled to play top clubs from Morocco as well. Our aim is to play as many friendlies as we can to gauge our per­for­mance ahead of the AWCON.” Those, who have been axed and were part of the na­tional team that fea­tured in the re­cent Ce­cafa show in Uganda are Terry Ouko, Mercy Achieng, Carolyne Kiget, Mau­reen Ater and Sharon Alu­och.

After the Morocco tour, the team un­der David Ouma is set to host Cameroon and Egypt later this month here be­fore trav­el­ing to Cameroon for a re­turn leg.
