CYNTHIA ILAKO/ Huawei Technologies, the world’s largest maker of telecommunications equipment, has picked nine engineering and ICT students in local public universities to attend a two-week training in Shenzhen, Guangdong. The programme, under Huawei Seeds for the Future Fellowship, is in line with a partnership the firm signed with the ICT ministry in 2014 to build human capital through the development of telecommunications skills. “The industry has changed drastically over the past five years with the developments such as the Internet of things and cloud technologies,” Huawei Kenya CEO Dean Yu said. “With this deliberate engagement to support the Kenyan youth, who today form the majority of the Kenyan population, is a sustainable effort to ensure that the future of Kenya is in capable hands.” “Working with the private sector is a deliberate move intended to increase productivity,” ICT PS Victor Kyalo said.
