Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has given high praise to his talented team-mate Alex Iwobi, by likening him to both Jay-Jay Okocha and Edgar Davids.

Since Iwobi broke into the Arsenal first-team last season, he has impressed many and cemented his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up.

Iwobi has made seven appearances in all competitions so far this season, despite missing Arsenal’s games against Leicester and Watford earlier in the season due to a hip injury.

As well as comparing Iwobi to his uncle Okocha and Davids, Ozil also insists that the Nigerian 20-year-old is strong in all departments of his game. He reminds me of his uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha,” Ozil told Arse- nal Player. “He was a player I loved watching. Alex reminds me of a mixture of him and Edgar Davids.

“He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he’s good in front of goal too. He knows exactly what he can do. He isn’t scared and doesn’t hide on the pitch. He just wants to have fun playing football and that really shows on the pitch, and also in training.

“He’s developing really well and if he continues the way he’s been playing the whole season, he will really enhance his game.

“The manager knows exactly how good he is and I wish him all the best. He is really young and is on a really good path.” Iwobi’s international career has also taken off as he netted his first competitive goal for Nigeria in a 2-1 victory over Zambia on Sunday.

Iwobi and Ozil will both be looking to help Arsenal secure a sixth successive victory in all competitions.
