Me­dia Fo­cus on Africa, Fida train women as­pi­rants

Me­dia Fo­cus on Africa, in part­ner­ship with Fida Kenya, has rolled out a twoyear train­ing pro­gramme for women as­pir­ing for po­lit­i­cal po­si­tions. The NGO’s project co­or­di­na­tor, Har­ri­son Manga, said they will train women as­pi­rants from eight coun­ties. He said since June, they have trained 50 women vy­ing for the MCA and gover­nor po­si­tions. The or­gan­i­sa­tion has al­ready trained women in the Trans Nzoia, Nandi, West Pokot, Narok, Ka­ji­ado and Nyan­darua coun­ties. Speak­ing in Kisumu yes­ter­day, Manga said a few women were elected at the 2013 gen­eral elec­tion. He said cul­tural be­liefs have made it dif­fi­cult for most women to ven­ture into lead­er­ship. Manga said the pro­gramme aims to make women com­pet­i­tive.
