Stop selling your farm produce early, DP Ruto urges farmers in North Rift
Deputy President William Ruto has urged farmers, especially in the North Rift region, not to sell their farm produce early to prevent food insecurity.
Addressing a public rally when he opened the Kabarnet ASK Show last Friday, DP Ruto acknowledged that the North Rift is the country’s breadbasket.
He warned that impulse selling of farm produce such as maize is likely to result in shortages as early as early next year, leading to hunger.
“We are aware some farmers had a bumper harvest in Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo counties this year owing to the rains and favourable weather conditions. We therefore urge you to preserve the harvest in case of drought next year. The government is committed to ensuring food security,” Ruto said.
