State should invest in agriculture to curb starvation
The government needs to invest more in agriculture to curb starvation and hunger. As reported by the Star yesterday, 1.3 million Kenyans face starvation and are in dire need of relief food. The counties affected include Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, Marsabit, Kitui and Samburu. Irrigation should be supported in these and other arid and semi-arid regions, where communities depend on pastoralism. If food security is attained, other development programmes will be easily achieved.
