Support Moi varsity campus in Yala, rep urges politicians
Gem politicians have been urged not to fight Moi University’s Odera Akang’o campus in Yala. Yala Township MCA Joseph Kawuor said they should instead encourage students to enrol. “Their sons and daughters should seek higher education from this institution,” he said. Kawuor urged politicians to pay fees for needy students at the campus. He spoke to the Star at the ward on Monday. Kawuor said the campus will increase the number of professionals from the region. He said the campus will not be closed even though it recently enrolled a paltry 60 students in the first year programme. Kawuor said local leaders have resolved the land issue problem, which could have undermined the institution’s need for expansion. His sentiments come in the wake of fears by residents that the institution might be closed because it has inadequate space, hence cannot meet the regulatory requirements for institutions of such calibre.
