Po­lice gun down no­to­ri­ous Mu­mias rob­ber, his two ac­com­plices es­cape

Mu­mias po­lice yes­ter­day gunned down an armed rob­ber at Mwitoti shop­ping cen­tre.

Mu­mias East sub­county AP com­man­der Ezekiel Ogutu said Idris Mu­timba’s two ac­com­plices fled. He said po­lice on pa­trol were alerted about the rob­bery by a watch­man.

“Po­lice con­fronted the three and told them to sur­ren­der, but they re­fused to do so,” Ogutu said. He said Mu­timba’s ac­com­plices were at the back of the shop and es­caped be­fore po­lice opened fire.

Ogutu said Mu­timba was a no­to­ri­ous crim­i­nal who dropped out of Eluche Pri­mary School. He said Mu­timba had ear­lier at­tacked a Chi­nese worker at a con­struc­tion site near Shi­anda mar­ket.

Po­lice re­cov­ered a hack­saw used to cut pad­locks at the shop’s en­try. Mu­timba said the thugs took ad­van­tage of the Manch­ester ver­sus Liver­pool match to rob shops.
