Reduce number of MPs to lighten wage bill – Savula

The Star (Kenya) - - Counties -

Lugari MP Ayub Savula has said he supports the proposed reduction in the number of MPs to ease the wage bill. The cut was recommended in a report by a working group chaired by Auditor General Edward Ouko, tabled in Parliament last Thursday. The audit said Kenyans are overrepresented. “It is a fact that the 2010 Constitution made things too expensive for Kenyans,” Savula told the Star on the phone yesterday. There are 290 elected MPs, 12 nominated legislators. There are 47 elected senators and 20 nominated officials, 1, 450 MCAs and 47 woman representatives.
